Darwin Recruitment are currently hiring for a Lead Avionics Engineer on behalf of a company in Germany that borders France and was founded in 2021 and specializes in the development and manufacturing of space capsules designed to return cargo from space. Their primary focus is on providing affordable, reliable, and eco-friendly solutions for life sciences research, particularly in microgravity environments. They offer microgravity on demand, with flight durations ranging from 3 hours to 3 months, catering to research areas such as monoclonal antibodies, stem cells, organoids, and protein crystallization. One of their key technologies is a return Capsule, which can carry payloads up to 100 kg and offers customizable flight durations. The capsule provides both pressurized and vacuum payload bays with selectable temperature setpoints, ensuring suitable environments for various experiments.
Responsibilities:
* Facilitate avionics hardware development from conception to flight-ready systems.
* Work with government agencies to ensure compliance to all safety requirements.
* Develop component, systems, and test requirements in conjunction with engineers, stakeholders, and government agencies.
* Champion safety, reliability, and performance margins for avionics components and systems while balancing timeline goals and regulations.
* Gather, define, and document requirements to meet existing and anticipated needs for vehicle avionics.
* Develop, build & test avionics / on board computer components
* Develop, analyse, and review data to validate and verify the avionics system meets specifications and design requirements
* Power control and distribution units; power budgeting; conversion of off the shelf electronic components to space qualified components identification and selection
* Collaborate with mechanical and flight sciences teams to maintain design alignment on requirements and integration
* Mentor junior members of the avionics systems team.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
* Prior work designing, developing, and testing avionics hardware on launch vehicles or space system
* Experience designing component and test requirements
* Experience qualifying avionics systems for spaceflight
* Experience developing or architecting systems applicable to government regulations
* B.S. in Aerospace or Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science (CS), Computer Engineering (CE), or similar from an accredited university
* 4+ year’s experience in the development of aircraft, missile, spacecraft or similar electronic/avionic systems
