Electrical Power Systems Manager

Location: El Segundo, California, Onsite
Compensation: 150,000 to 200,000 USD per year
U.S. Citizenship Required (Security Clearance Eligible)

Darwin Space are partnered with an exciting national security space company who are building high performance small satellites for critical U.S. government missions. They are expanding their leadership team with an Electrical Power Systems Manager who will lead the engineering group responsible for all spacecraft Electrical Power System architecture and development activities.

They are looking for a strong technical leader who can manage staffing, guide EPS system definition, oversee cost and schedule inputs, and partner across engineering teams to deliver reliable flight hardware. This role requires a mix of people leadership, technical depth and the ability to operate within complex, fast moving programs supporting national security customers.

The team values clear communication, strong organisation, technical judgement and a proactive approach to problem solving.


Role Overview

The Electrical Power Systems Manager will lead the EPS engineering team and act as the primary point of contact for technical, budget and resource allocation matters. You will oversee EPS architecture definition for multiple spacecraft buses, coordinate with other subsystems, maintain cost and schedule inputs, resolve technical issues and mature the technical processes used across the team.

This role involves line management, resource planning, technical oversight and close collaboration with program leadership, hardware teams, harnessing, flight software and mission engineering.

You will play a significant role in shaping product roadmaps, improving internal processes and ensuring the success of spacecraft programs.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management

  • Manage staffing for the Electrical Power Systems team
  • Provide technical oversight, coaching and performance management
  • Mentor, develop and motivate team members
  • Conduct personnel reviews, assign tasks and oversee work scope allocation

EPS Architecture and Technical Direction

  • Lead definition and maintenance of spacecraft EPS architectures across multiple platforms
  • Ensure alignment with overall spacecraft system designs
  • Partner closely with harnessing, products and flight software teams
  • Support development of forward leaning EPS solutions

Program Delivery and Execution

  • Provide cost, schedule and technical inputs to programs
  • Support proposal efforts and help define initial scope
  • Coordinate with engineering, programs and manufacturing to align schedules and resolve technical tasks
  • Lead discrepancy resolution and support design modifications

Process Improvement and Tooling

  • Develop, refine and improve EPS team processes
  • Create development schedule templates, key artifacts and reviews
  • Develop tools to improve cost and schedule modeling for EPS development planning
  • Maintain documentation for current products including technical data, schedules and cost information

Collaboration and Cross Functional Support

  • Work with engineering leadership, business development and program management
  • Support transition from development work into mature products
  • Coordinate with other subsystem leads to solve technical challenges

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Information Science, Mathematics or related field
  • Three or more years of experience with spacecraft solar arrays, electrical systems or power systems analysis
  • Three or more years of hands on electronics design experience in EPS, Command and Data Handling, RF or GNC
  • Experience supporting electrical power systems including design, verification, troubleshooting and anomaly resolution
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex topics clearly
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment with competing priorities

Security Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience qualifying space avionics
  • One or more years of program management or IPT leadership
  • Active TS or TS/SCI clearance

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary between 150,000 and 200,000 USD
