Generator Service Technician- Fresno-CA, Kingsport-TN, Boone-NC
In this hands-on, high-impact position, you’ll troubleshoot, maintain, and repair generator systems-from small units to large-scale power solutions-ensuring reliability when it matters most.
Key Responsibilities
-
Perform maintenance and repairs on generators and parallel systems (5-5000 kW).

Troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), including bypass isolation and closed transition types.

Troubleshoot and repair switchgear and AC/DC electrical circuits.
-
Conduct preventive maintenance, replace components, and complete warranty repairs per manufacturer guidelines.
-
Perform start-up and commissioning of new generator systems (standby, parallel, micro-grid).
-
Diagnose and repair diesel and gaseous engines (ignition, injection, valve adjustments, etc.).
-
Conduct load bank tests to ensure code compliance and proper operation.
-
Assist other technicians on large or complex service jobs.
-
Complete required documentation, service reports, and parts usage accurately.

Maintain security and upkeep of company tools, vehicles, and equipment.
Education & Experience
-
High school diploma or GED (preferred).
-
Generac Power Systems certification (preferred).
-
Experience as:
-
USAF Electrical Power Production Specialist,
-
US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or
-
Generator/UPS field service technician (preferred).

Skills & Qualifications

Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.

Strong communication skills for written and verbal job status reporting.

Ability to travel long distances and stay overnight (1-3 nights typically; up to 1 week).

Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe (PDF), and web browsers.

Strong problem-solving skills, especially in high-stress or emergency situations.

Commitment to continuous learning and technical skill development.

Must maintain company property, vehicle, inventory, laptop, phone, and tools.

Additional Requirements
