Lead Engineer – High Voltage (Primary Systems) – Zwolle
This role focuses on the development, design, and realization of high-voltage infrastructure for applications such as hydrogen facilities, battery storage sites, and data centers.
The organization has complete in-house expertise across the full scope of the energy transition – from installing underground and overhead high-voltage cables to constructing a wide range of high-voltage substations. Departments work closely together, ensuring you always have access to knowledge, guidance, and teamwork. The engineering team in the Zwolle region is growing, currently consisting of around 15 specialists within a larger national team of approximately 300.
About the Role
As Lead Engineer High Voltage (Primary Systems), you will be responsible for the design and integration of high-voltage components and their supporting structures. This includes equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, measuring transformers, and cable/overhead line connections.
You will lead both internal and external engineers and take ownership across all project phases – from initial concept and basic design through to execution and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate functional requirements into technical design concepts and project plans.
- Create and validate integrated technical solutions based on client specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare, review, and safeguard the quality of technical drawings, documentation, and calculations.
- Support project leadership throughout design development, engineering coordination, and execution phases.
- Identify technical risks or design conflicts and drive resolution and improvement.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
- Experience with high-voltage components such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, transformers, or HV connections is highly beneficial.
- Affinity with high-voltage networks and power system engineering.
- A proactive, solution-driven mindset with strong analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams and stakeholders.
