MD of Structural engineer

Role Summary
The Managing Director (MD) will define and execute the strategic vision of the organisation, drive sustainable growth across various business lines (infrastructure, building, environment, safety, landscape, and spatial planning), lead senior management, and strengthen market presence through strong client relationships and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision

Define and implement long-term strategies aligned with company goals.

Identify new market opportunities and service expansions (e.g. environmental safety, rail infrastructure, logistics).

Operational Management

Oversee day-to-day business operations across offices.

Ensure top-tier project delivery – from feasibility, design, execution to completion.

Drive process improvement, digitalisation, and quality standards.

Financial & Business Performance

Achieve financial targets: revenue growth, profitability, and cost control.

Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and performance reports.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

Cultivate and secure high-value client relationships (public authorities, private sector).

Represent the organisation in external forums (industry associations, professional networks).

Lead proposal development, bidding processes, and contract negotiations.

Team Development & Culture

Lead, mentor, and empower senior leaders and key project managers.

Foster a collaborative, innovation-driven, multi-disciplinary culture.

Promote diversity, work-life balance, and professional development across all offices.

Governance & Compliance

Ensure adherence to governance standards, legal and ethical practices, and technical compliance.

Maintain certifications, uphold professional standards, and manage risk effectively.

Candidate Profile

Experience & Acumen

10+ years in senior leadership within engineering, architecture, infrastructure, or construction.

Proven success in full-cycle project delivery-civil, infrastructure, or landscape.

Strong expertise in business development, client negotiation, and P&L management.

Experience leading multi-office, multi-disciplinary teams within the Swiss market is highly regarded.

Qualifications

Degree in civil engineering, architecture, environmental science, urban planning, or related field. Advanced degree or MBA is preferred.

Membership in a relevant professional body is advantageous.

Strategic thinker with strong commercial and analytical skills.

Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building abilities.

Fluent in German and English; French is an asset.
