Process Development Engineer

Location: Milan, Italy

Employment type: Full-time

An established and growing fibre optics and photonics technology company in Milan is seeking a Process Development Engineer to join their wafer fabrication team. This role will focus on developing and supporting key cleanroom processes, particularly in photolithography, thin-film deposition, and etching.

Key Responsibilities:

Ā· Oversee and support wafer fab operations, focusing on photolithography (stepper and track systems) and the qualification of new reticles and recipes

Ā· Develop and improve industrial manufacturing processes to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost control

Ā· Support the development of thin film vacuum deposition and dry/plasma etching processes

Ā· Investigate and troubleshoot process and product issues

Ā· Collaborate with installation and maintenance teams for equipment calibration and upgrades

Ā· Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with health and safety regulations

Ā· Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods to improve process yield and reduce rework

Ā· Introduce process innovations to improve lead times and performance

Ā· Create and manage documentation for process transfer to manufacturing

Ā· Conduct training for manufacturing operators on new or revised processes

Candidate Requirements:

Ā· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electronics, Materials), Physics, or Chemistry

Ā· Prior experience in wafer fab or semiconductor manufacturing (nanotechnology preferred)

Ā· Familiarity with overlay and CDSEM metrology tools (preferred)

Ā· Knowledge of plasma etching, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), or Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) is a plus

Ā· Understanding of process validation and quality tools (e.g., FMEA, Six Sigma, SPC)

Ā· Strong teamwork and communication skills

Ā· Fluent in English (spoken and written)

Ā· Willingness to travel occasionally

Ā· Competency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of LabVIEW is an advantage
