The Ship Repair Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing steel work and shipfitting activities across multiple ship repair projects nationwide. Reporting to senior operational leadership on assigned projects, this position directs and coordinates production efforts through internal teams and subcontractors, ensuring all work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. Operating within a well-established marine and offshore services organization supporting ship repair, modification, and engineering projects, this role plays a critical part in driving project execution, maintaining quality standards, and supporting client satisfaction across complex shipyard environments. The Supervisor is expected to manage projects from start to finish while leading teams of up to 20 personnel and traveling extensively across the United States.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily steel work and shipfitting activities across assigned projects
- Lead teams of up to 20 personnel, including subcontractors, to meet production goals
- Develop and execute project schedules in alignment with budgets and contract requirements
- Coordinate with internal departments to ensure availability of materials, tools, and equipment
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract requirements to guide execution
- Monitor productivity and adjust priorities to optimize workflow between trades
- Identify, document, and communicate change orders or out-of-scope work
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture on-site
- Liaise with clients, supervisors, and stakeholders to provide updates and resolve issues
- Travel to shipyards and project sites across the U.S. to oversee project execution
Requirements:
- Approximately 5+ years of experience in ship repair, shipbuilding, or heavy industrial environments
- Strong background in steel work, structural repairs, and shipfitting activities
- Proven experience supervising teams and coordinating subcontractors
- Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Solid understanding of production planning, scheduling, and cost control principles
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve technical and operational challenges
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with teams, clients, and management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the United States
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing project demands
