Darwin is assisting a well-established marine service provider with their search for experienced Senior Marine Engineers experienced in Diesel Engines.
The Senior Service Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for overseeing field and workshop service operations, delivering high-quality maintenance and repair services on marine diesel engines and associated systems. This role involves hands-on technical work, team leadership, customer interaction, and support of internal technical operations, ensuring exceptional service delivery and adherence to safety, quality, and integrity standards.
The role reports directly to executive leadership and requires a strong technical background, leadership capability, and the ability to operate independently in demanding field environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare service jobs, including defining work scopes, estimating labor, and developing parts lists for customer proposals.
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, overhaul, and installation of 2-stroke and 4-stroke diesel engines and related systems in field and workshop settings.
- Act as technical lead on service projects, providing guidance and oversight to service technicians.
- Communicate daily job progress and technical issues to internal technical and operations teams.
- Adapt to changing scopes of work and resolve onsite technical and customer issues professionally.
- Produce detailed service and technical reports, including measurements, findings, and work performed.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships and participate in client meetings to support business development.
- Support internal technical projects and operational initiatives as required.
- Assist management with evaluating tools, equipment, and maintenance needs for service operations.
- Uphold high standards of professionalism, safety, and integrity while mentoring and training junior technicians.
Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of experience working on medium- and/or slow-speed marine diesel engines.
- Experience with major OEM engines such as MAN, WƤrtsilƤ, MAK, Sulzer, Mitsubishi, Yanmar, Daihatsu, Himsen, Bergen, or similar platforms.
- Marine industry experience preferred; power generation or industrial engine experience considered.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time.
- Strong knowledge of marine engine systems, auxiliary equipment, and diagnostic techniques.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, procedures, and best practices in industrial and marine environments.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor technicians.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and operate in dynamic field conditions.
